Overview
Released by Konami in early 1993, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure marked the franchise's debut on the Sega Genesis. The adventure begins when Buster Bunny discovers a secret treasure map while cleaning out an attic at Acme Looniversity. Before he can claim the loot, his rival Montana Max steals the map and hires the villainous Dr. Gene Splicer, who uses mind-control helmets to turn Buster's friends—including Plucky Duck, Hamton J. Pig, and Dizzy Devil—into hostile bosses. Meanwhile, Elmyra Duff captures Babs Bunny, forcing Buster to embark on a massive rescue mission across more than 30 levels. To advance through each zone and free his brainwashed pals, Buster must reach the quirky Gogo Dodo, who opens dimensional portals leading to the next stage.
In contrast to the SNES entry released around the same time, Buster's Hidden Treasure leans heavily into fast-paced physics and exploration reminiscent of Genesis flagship titles like Sonic the Hedgehog. Buster features a quick movement speed, momentum-based slope sliding, and the ability to wall-jump to access higher platforms. Players can collect carrots scattered throughout stages; every 50 carrots allow Buster to summon a helper friend, such as Li'l Sneezer or Little Beeper, to clear the screen of enemies. Featuring an interactive world map with branching paths, colorful 16-bit graphics, and catchy renditions of the show's musical cues, the game stands out as a high-speed platforming highlight in the 16-bit Sega library.
